Talbot : Sunbeam
Model Introduction
The Talbot Sunbeam, launched in 1977 as the Chrysler Sunbeam and rebadged after Peugeot’s takeover of Chrysler Europe, was a compact three-door hatchback developed quickly using the rear-wheel-drive platform of the Hillman Avenger. Built at the Linwood plant in Scotland, it ranged from basic economy models to the high-performance Sunbeam Lotus, which won the 1981 World Rally Championship for Talbot. Its mix of practicality, straightforward engineering, and motorsport pedigree has kept it in enthusiast circles, with the Lotus variant especially revered today for its speed, rarity, and rally success.
