Volvo : Amazon

Model Introduction

The Volvo Amazon, officially known as the 120 Series, was introduced in 1956 and helped establish Volvo’s reputation for strength, safety, and reliability. Styled by Jan Wilsgaard, it combined clean Scandinavian lines with robust engineering, and was offered as a saloon, estate, and two-door coupé. It was among the first production cars to feature front seatbelts as standard, underlining Volvo’s commitment to safety. Powered by a range of durable four-cylinder engines, including the later B18 and B20 units, the Amazon proved popular in export markets and enjoyed success in rallying. Built until 1970, it bridged the gap between the PV544 and the 140 Series, becoming one of Volvo’s most enduring classics.
