Volvo : 200 Series
Model Introduction
The Volvo 200 Series, launched in 1974, was a heavily revised evolution of the 140 but introduced key safety and engineering updates that would make it one of Volvo’s most iconic ranges. Styled again by Jan Wilsgaard with boxier, more modern lines, it featured crumple zones, energy-absorbing bumpers, and one of the safest interiors of its era. Offered in two- and four-door saloon forms as well as the spacious 245 estate, it was powered by a wide range of engines including the robust B21 and B23 four-cylinders, diesels, and even the PRV V6 in higher trims. Built until 1993, the 200 Series became synonymous with Volvo durability, comfort, and safety, cementing its place as a global success and a classic of Scandinavian automotive design.
