Volvo : 140 Series

Model Introduction

The Volvo 140 Series, launched in 1966, introduced a new, more angular design language under Jan Wilsgaard that would influence Volvo styling for decades. Offered as a two- or four-door saloon and later as the 145 estate, it combined Volvo’s trademark durability with improved space, comfort, and modern safety features such as crumple zones and disc brakes on all four wheels. Powered by the robust B18 and later B20 four-cylinder engines, the 140 earned a reputation for reliability and practicality, making it a strong seller worldwide. Produced until 1974, it laid the foundation for the later 240 Series and helped cement Volvo’s identity as a maker of safe, solid, and sensible cars.
