Vauxhall : Cavalier Mk2
Model Introduction
The Vauxhall Cavalier Mk2 launched in 1981 as a radical shift to front-wheel drive, lighter engineering, and greater fuel efficiency. Based on the Opel Ascona C, it was offered in saloon, hatchback, and an estate version sourced from Australia’s Holden Camira, giving the range a global flavour. A huge sales hit in Britain, it mixed space, comfort, and low running costs, with the sporty SRi and later SRi130 adding real driver appeal and helping the Cavalier become a cornerstone of 1980s motoring.
