Vauxhall Astra Mk2

Model Introduction

The Vauxhall Astra Mk2, launched in 1984, featured smoother, more modern styling and shared its underpinnings with the Opel Kadett E, which boasted an exceptionally low aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.30 in certain models — remarkable for a family hatchback of the era. Lighter and more efficient than its predecessor, it offered a wide range of trims and body styles, from practical estates to the GTE 16v hot hatch capable of over 130 mph and successful in touring car racing. Built at Ellesmere Port, it became a common sight on British roads and reinforced the Astra’s reputation for practicality, efficiency, and driver appeal.
