Renault : 4
Model Introduction
The Renault 4, launched in 1961, was Renault’s first front-wheel-drive family car and became one of the best-selling French cars of all time, with over eight million built. Designed by Fernand Picard and styled for maximum practicality, it featured a simple, boxy body with a large rear hatch, making it one of the earliest true hatchbacks. Rugged and versatile, the R4 was equally at home in city streets or rural tracks, earning a reputation for reliability and low running costs. Produced for more than three decades and sold in over 100 countries, it became a motoring icon and a symbol of French everyday life.
