Renault : 19

Model Introduction

The Renault 19, introduced in 1988, marked a return to clean, understated styling under the direction of Giorgetto Giugiaro at Italdesign. Built on a new platform with improved aerodynamics and refinement, it was available in three- and five-door hatchback, saloon, and cabriolet forms. The cabriolet was styled and built by Karmann, adding further prestige to the range. With a wide choice of petrol and diesel engines, including high-performance 16-valve versions, the R19 won praise for its ride comfort and handling balance, and it became a strong global seller before evolving into the Renault Mégane in the mid-1990s.
