Model Introduction
The Peugeot 505, launched in 1979, was the last rear-wheel-drive Peugeot and carried over Pininfarina’s crisp, elegant styling from the 504 while adding a more modern, aerodynamic profile. Available as a saloon and a hugely practical estate, it offered a wide range of petrol and diesel engines, with some markets receiving turbocharged petrol and diesel versions that were praised for their performance. Known for its exceptional ride comfort, durability, and balanced handling, the 505 found strong export success, particularly in Africa, South America, and China. Its long production run, lasting into the 1990s in some regions, reflected the model’s reputation for toughness and reliability.
