Mercedes-Benz : W201 (190)
Model Introduction
The Mercedes-Benz W201, launched in 1982 and marketed as the 190 series, was the company’s first compact executive saloon, bringing S-Class engineering to a smaller and more affordable package. Styled by Bruno Sacco, it introduced the innovative multi-link rear suspension that would become a Mercedes hallmark, and was offered with a wide range of petrol and diesel engines, including the high-performance 190E 2.3-16 developed with Cosworth. Praised for its build quality, ride comfort, and durability, the W201 redefined the compact luxury segment and laid the groundwork for the later C-Class.
