Mercedes-Benz : W116 S-Class
Model Introduction
The Mercedes-Benz W116, launched in 1972, was the first model officially designated as the S-Class and set new benchmarks for safety, refinement, and engineering quality. Styled under Friedrich Geiger, it introduced innovations such as padded interior surfaces, deformable body structures, and the option of pioneering ABS from 1978. Available with smooth six-cylinder and powerful V8 engines, the W116 combined authoritative presence with long-distance comfort, and in 450 SEL 6.9 form offered one of the fastest and most capable luxury saloons of its era.
