Ford : Granada Mk1

Model Introduction

The Ford Granada Mk1 was launched in 1972 as Ford of Europe’s new executive flagship, replacing both the British Zephyr/Zodiac and the German P7-series. Developed jointly by Ford of Britain and Ford of Germany, it marked the beginning of a truly unified model range. The Granada was offered in saloon, estate, and coupé forms, all featuring bold, transatlantic-inspired styling with a wide grille and crisp bodywork that echoed American Fords of the time. Underneath, it rode on a new rear-wheel-drive platform with MacPherson struts up front and a coil-sprung live rear axle, offering a good balance of comfort and durability. Engine options ranged from a 2.0-litre Pinto four-cylinder to Essex and Cologne V6s in 2.5-, 3.0-, and later 2.8-litre capacities, with manual or automatic transmission options across the board.
