Ford : Fiesta Mk2
Model Introduction
The Mk2 Fiesta built on the strong foundation of the original but broadened its appeal across the board from frugal base models ideal for first-time buyers to the sporty XR2 and plusher Ghia versions aimed at upwardly mobile young drivers. It also formed the basis for the first diesel Fiesta, introduced in 1984 using a 1.6-litre engine developed from the Escort, giving excellent fuel economy and strong sales among fleet buyers. With over two million Mk2s built before it was replaced in 1989 by the all-new Mk3, the Fiesta had firmly established itself as a class leader. Today, the Mk2 is increasingly sought after in XR2 and low-mileage survivor form, prized for its clean styling, simple mechanics, and the charm of an era when small cars were truly small but still full of personality.
