Ford : Escort Mk1
Model Introduction
The Ford Escort Mk1 was launched in 1968 as the long-awaited replacement for the ageing Anglia 105E, and quickly became a defining car of its era. Designed under Ford of Britain with input from Ford of Germany, it was the first car to be developed under the newly formed Ford of Europe. Styled with soft curves, a distinctive “dogbone” grille, and subtle coke-bottle hips, the Mk1 had immediate showroom appeal. Beneath the skin, it was mechanically simple but effective—rear-wheel drive, MacPherson struts at the front, and a live axle at the rear—delivering predictable handling and low running costs. Powered initially by 1.1- and 1.3-litre Kent engines, it was available in two- and four-door saloon forms, and later as an estate and panel van.

Two feline Fords
Here's a couple of mergers Lord Stokes and Walter Hayes would never have approved of. Sure, they're twin-cam-engined Escorts, but how many Ford twin cams do you know of with six in-line pots? Or, to put it another way, how many Jags have you seen with Escort bodywork.
