Fiat : Regata
Model Introduction
The Fiat Regata was launched in 1983 as a saloon and estate derivative of the Ritmo (Strada), offering more space and formality for buyers who preferred a traditional three-box layout. Designed in-house by Centro Stile Fiat, it retained much of the Ritmo’s mechanical package including transverse front-wheel-drive, MacPherson struts up front, and trailing arm rear suspension but wrapped it in a more angular, conservative body aimed at the middle market. Available with a wide range of engines from 1.3 to 2.0 litres, including both petrol and diesel options, the Regata offered respectable performance and good fuel economy. A digital dashboard and trip computer were available on higher trims, reflecting Fiat’s interest in bringing high-tech features to a mainstream audience.
