Austin : Metro

Model Introduction

The Austin Metro was launched in 1980 as a modern replacement for the Mini, developed under Sir Alec Issigonis’s original front-wheel-drive philosophy but with more space and updated engineering. It introduced the new A+ engine and retained Hydragas suspension, giving it a comfortable ride for its size.

Now, many miles later, we're certain of its fundamental design excellence and dynamic qualities - but we've had to live with an annoying batch of early production problems that two dealers could not solve
